The Kosala School (Estd. 1979 ) has progressed by leaps and bounds from mere a local school to a school of national repute . Being the first Residential English Medium Co-Educational School in Western Odisha , the initiative to provide the basic education to the local and the nearby children has undergone through a tremendous transformation with the combined and concerted efforts of certain pragmatic cultivators of Andhra Pradesh who initially came to western odisha for creating an agricultural revolution . They established the school with a broad vision to nourish the children of this region educationally. In the course of time ,The Kosala School goes on serving superbly , striving tirelessly to establish the proper standard of education in this predominantly rural area , at last in 1985 the school got affiliation from the Central Board of Secondary Education .
The history of the inception of The Kosala School is strongly linked with the historical Hirakud dam project. The farmers migrated from the east Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh were the true sculpture of Hirakud dam and Agricultural revolution here. It all happened because of Late Chief Minister of Odisha Sri Biju Pattnaik , he was in power, and his association with the founder Chairman of The Kosala School Late Gannmani Anand Rao garu. Later those migrated Andhra community people began to settle here permanently started thinking of quality education for their children. Then the idea of The Kosala School was imagined by Gannmani Anand Rao garu.
As The Kosala School has a long association with Sri Biju Pattnaik, the then Chief Minister of Odisha. The inauguration of The Kosala School was laid by him with the founder chairman Gannmani Anand Rao garu in 1979.The noble Idea of providing English (NCERT) education to the kids of the Local Telugu community ,the contribution of G. Anand Rao is noteworthy in shaping The Kosala School up to this level of excellence. By collecting the donation in the early 70s from the local farmers , with a humble beginning he started the school with a palm leaf hovel. In the mean time, the migrated Telugu community in undivided Sambalpur district started cultivation of paddy here which later converted to be a green revolution under the guidance of Gannmani Anand Rao garu.
The Kosala School now by its constant and perennial efforts has come to this height of one of the best residential schools of Western Odisha.
The present Chief Minister of Odisha Sj. Naveen Patnaik also visited the school in 1998.
At the rapid rate of change in imparting education at the global level and in so many facets of society , The Kosala School has been taking the responsibility in setting its own learning goals and in making choices about how to reach and achieve them . Within a brief span of few decades a tremendous transformation in making infrastructure such as double storeyed hostel building for girls and boys separately , a multipurpose hall which is now named as a conference hall for conducting coscholastic (school based) activities and guest lectures in order to train the students and the teachers as well . The Dining hall has been constructed with a capacity of 250 seating with well-furnished marble dining tables and also a two storeyed building with all basic facilities for the residential teachers who can care and share with the hostel children round the clock .
